Text, numbers and formulae in a cell

Data can be entered in three ways into a spreadsheet cell:

  • text

  • value

  • formula.

Text is words such as headings and labels.

Values are the numbers. They are used to perform calculations.

Formulas are equations that carry out mathematical processes on the values in the cells. A formula is started with an equals sign (= ) or an addition sign (+).

Move your mouse over the cells to name the type of information.
