Using a spreadsheet

A spreadsheet is a an easy way of processing information and producing charts or graphs. Follow the instructions below to set up an Excel spreadsheet using the information from the growth of a wheat plant. There are a few things that you need to understand about spreadsheets before you graph the results.

Use cell addresses to locate a cell

Spreadsheets consists of a table that has been divided into columns and rows. Where these intersect are called cells.

A cell address is the position of the cell on a spreadsheet.

Spreadsheet
Columns run vertical (down) in a spreadsheet with letters (A, B, C . . .) to identify the position of each column in the worksheet. Rows run horizontally (across) in a spreadsheet with numbers (1, 2, 3 . . .) to identify the location of the each row in the worksheet. Where the columns and rows intersect you have a cell.

Use your mouse to move over the cells below to see the cell names.
