Introduction

You will be investigating the steps involved in classifying, this time using plant classification as the example.

The chart below shows the steps involved in classifying - observing, describing, looking for similarities and differences and grouping.   All these steps build to a classification system.

As well, the chart shows the usefulness of building a system that can be used to classify.   A classification system can be used to identify patterns and change, and to name and identify organisms.
