'Down to earth' is a print-based module, the first of two modules which examine the commercial production and management of plants. It introduces you to broad acre cropping by focusing on a farm in the Berrigan area. You will initially look at the interactive nature of its enterprises and resources. Then you will focus on one of its plant enterprises – canola – and the factors that affect its production. Later in the module you will look at how soil characteristics and cultivation affect plant production and the ways the farm manager can manage the resource interactions in a sustainable manner.

By the end of the module you should appreciate the role of decision making in producing agricultural commodities. Throughout the module you will be encouraged to relate the material you are learning about to plant enterprises which are important in your region.

Below are three resources which will assist you in the study of commercial production and management of plants.
